AFL Power Poll – Week 3

November 30th, 2008 by Administrator

CURRENT) (TEAM) (W/L RECORD) (LAST WEEKS RANK)

1) Colorado Crush (2-0) (LW: 1) Neither of Colorado’s first two wins of the season would be classified as dominating, but a win is a win and the defending champs sit atop the power poll for the third straight week. They handed Georgia its first home loss in 13 games, and were able to avoid the revenge spot in their thrilling 61-59 road win. OS Harrell had a huge day once again hauling in 11 passes for 132 yards and five TDs further cementing himself as the premiere offensive threat in the league. I’m still not enamored with this clubs defense whatsoever, but you have to outscore them to beat them, and not many will be able to do that this year. The Crush return home in Week 3 to take on a rejuvenated Las Vegas club coming off its first win of the season.

2) Philadelphia Soul (2-0) (LW: 3) The Soul revealed just how deep a club they possess with their 47-33 home victory over the Avengers. Starting QB Tony Graziani went down with a hand injury on Philly’s first offensive series of the game, but the offense didn’t skip a beat with back-up QB Matt Sauk leading the charge. They never once trailed in the game, and the defense sacked LA QB Brian Mann four times and constantly pressured him all game long. The special teams registered its first score of the season as well when WR/DB Mike Brown returned a missed FG to midfield and pitched to DS Kevin Gaines for a TD to give the Soul a 14-0 cushion. The Soul’s humming on all cylinders right now after getting out to the franchises first 2-0 start, and will be a formidable foe when the visit “The Jungle” Saturday night.

3) Nashville Kats (2-0) (LW: 4) I was impressed with the Kats effort in NY when they drubbed the Dragons, so I really don’t know the word to use to describe what they did as an encore versus Columbus. Dominating to say the least are these Kats as they’ve simply toyed with their first two opponents. QB Clint Stoerner had another solid outing throwing for five TDs, but it’s the defense that once again took center stage. They’ve now given up a total of 55 points in two games, and are on pace to break the single season record for fewest points allowed. They forced three turnovers, and allowed Columbus its first tally on the scoreboard late in the 2nd quarter. HC Pat Sperduto has himself a fantastic club on his hands, and a win this week in Chicago will only instill that much more confidence. Scary!!!

4) Dallas Desperados (2-0) (LW: 5) The Desperados picked up a huge road win in front of 16,000+ in the Delta Center to move to 2-0 on the young season. New QB Clint Dolezel has found himself a new favorite target in OS Terrill Shaw who hauled in 11 passes for a team record 208 yards and four TDs. His gaudy performance led to being named the offensive player of the game, but Despo fans have to love the way their new field general has settled in thus far. They also only tallied five penalties. That number speaks volumes for maybe where this club is headed this season. Another rough venue awaits them this Saturday night as division rival Columbus will be a salty host after getting pummeled last week.

5) Georgia Force (1-1) (LW: 2) The Force clawed, scratched, and battled in their pre-Super Bowl XL battle, but it wasn’t enough for them to exact revenge for their ArenaBowl loss to the Crush. A look inside the numbers would prove it to be a very close game, so the two-point margin of victory should come as no surprise. However, the Force never once led in the game, and their defense allowed the Crush too many offensive opportunities that allowed them to control the time of possession. Missed FG’s and extra points didn’t help either. Many are still disgusted by the “no call” on the two-point conversion, but even if they converted on that play the Crush had 19 seconds to work with. Hopefully they can shake the disappointment of that loss off before their Friday night division contest with the Storm.

6) Austin Wranglers (2-0) (LW: 8) The Wranglers have been the beneficiaries of a very easy schedule to open up their 2006 campaign, but that hasn’t stopped them from making an impact whatsoever. They’ve brought their lunch pails to work in each of their first two games, and have outscored their opponents by a 117-80 count. The offense has been electric, and the defense has been opportunistic. DS Damon Mason made his presence felt once again in their bolstered secondary as he snagged three more passes to raise his season total to five INTs on the year. Austin seems to have found the recipe for success in this league at a very early stage. They’ll pound you with a balanced attack on offense, and force you into mistakes on defense. Up next is their first division game of the season vs. the Brigade.

7) Orlando Predators (1-1) (LW: 11) It was by no means pretty, but the Predators snagged a crucial division win last week as they upended the visiting Brigade by a 48-41 count. Preds QB Joe Hamilton had a more efficient game passing the ball (21 of 28), but still threw a pair of INTs. The Preds defense simply had no answer for the Brigade’s passing attack as it was chewed up for a gaudy 353 yards on the night. This Orlando team is still coming together, and we should get a better feel for what this teams about in the next few weeks. Big test this week as the 2-0 Soul pay “The Jungle” a visit.

8) Tampa Bay Storm (1-1) (LW: 13) The Storm got more of a battle from the Rampage than they expected, but got the job done with a “never say die” mentality that allowed them to split their first two road games of the season. It was expected of Tampa to bounce back after their abysmal showing in Philly, and that’s exactly what they did. QB Shane Stafford completed 26 of 37 passes for 271 yards and four TDs. The defense came up with some huge defensive plays, which included a safety of GR QB Jose Davis late in the game that allowed the Storm to pull away for the win. This performance should be a huge motivator for the Storm’s stop unit as they got to see its hard work pay off in live game action. TB return’s home for its first game in the Forum this year to take on division rival Georgia, but it will be without HC Tim Marcum who was suspended one more game due to violating his probation.

9) New York Dragons (1-1) (LW: 15) I was one of the 15,000 strong in attendance last Friday night that saw the Dragons grab victory from the jaws of defeat on a controversial block in the back call to end the game. Regardless of that call, the Dragons were a completely different team than the one that took the field only a short week ago at home vs. the Kats. Their offense took what Chicago’s “D” would give the entire game, and their defense came up with a pair of crucial INTs that allowed them to get ahead on the possession track right off the bat. QB Aaron Garcia was beat up once again (4 sacks), but he was still able to lead his team to victory on their last crucial drive of the game. They now head to Utah to take on a feisty Blaze squad that lost a tough one at home themselves last week.

10) Columbus Destroyers (1-1) (LW: 7) Not much to say about last weeks performance, except Columbus knows it still has a ways to go before it will be able to compete with the AFL elite on the road. They were simply manhandled by the Kats last Friday night, but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that this is still a very solid football team. Look for them to bounce back this week with a much better effort as they host the streaking Desperados.

And the rest…

11) Chicago Rush (0-2) (LW: 10) 12) Utah Blaze (1-1) (LW: 9) 13) Los Angeles Avengers (1-1) (LW: 6) 14) Las Vegas Gladiators (1-1) (LW: 17) 15) Kansas City Brigade (0-2) (LW: 12) 16) San Jose Sabercats (0-2) (LW: 14) 17) Grand Rapids Rampage (0-2) (LW: 18) 18) Arizona Rattlers (0-2) (LW: 16)

Information on Wooden Flooring

November 29th, 2008 by Administrator

If you are debating whether wooden flooring is right for your home it’s important that you are familiar with the main wooden flooring terms. There are huge array of online flooring retailers, and its important to understand there are various factors with wooden flooring which effect how it looks, and makes each wooden floor look unique. There is a very slim chance that the wooden floor you saw in the showroom or on the internet will look the same as when it’s fitted in your home.

Part of the appeal of hardwood floors is that they are not uniform. One factor which effects the appearance of the wood is how near the wood is to the bark of the tree, this is called sapwood. The closer to the outside of the tree, the lighter the colour the wood will appear. The grain of the wood is another major factor, this can vary is direction and also varies in appearance depending on the colour of the wood fibers. The growth rings of the tree are also an important factor which effect how the wood looks. Tightly packed layers of wood are likely to result in a darker colour, these are formed when only a marginal layer of wood is added per year during a growing season. Other factors which can have an effect on the wood are mineral Streaks. These occur when trace elements are in the water, resulting in grey and olive markings. Knots are also a big factor in the appearance of your flooring, and are produced where branches of a tree have been encased, as the tree has grown. Often lower grade flooring will have more knots in it than higher grade.

One of the main benefits of wooden flooring is its durability, and also the ease with which damage can be repaired. But because it is a natural product, as opposed to synthetic, it is also prone to expand and contract during changes in the weather or season. This needs to be taken into account when your floor is fitted.

Comparing Super Bowl Six Seeds

November 26th, 2008 by Administrator

In the first tens days of pre-Super Bowl hype I’ve noticed that a central theme seems to be a perceived lack of respect for the Seattle Seahawks. I don’t much disagree however I think that little has been made of the Steelers march to to the AFC title. Lets remember that the Steelers were the sixth and final seed in the tougher of the NFL’s two conferences. Pittsburg then went on the road and beat Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Denver, the top three seeds in the AFC. Taking into account some horrific officiating, they did so in dominating fashion! Only one other six seed has ever advanced to the Super Bowl and that was the 1985 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.

Like this year’s Steelers, the ‘85 Pats finished their season at 11-5, good enough for third in the AFC East. The Pats then went to the Meadowlands and beat the Jets 26-14 in the Wildcard and then on to the LA Coliseum where they downed the Las Angeles Raiders 27-20 in their Divisional game. New England then went to Miami as overwhelming underdogs and dispatched the Dolphins 31-14 to punch their ticket to New Orleans and a date with the Bears in Super Bowl XX

That ‘85 Pat team started with veteran Steve Grogan at the controls but he went down with a severe injury in Game Seven and was replaced by Tony Eason. The Pats finished 21st in passing, 4th in rushing, 10th in points, and 9th in total offense. Eason’s abysmal 11/17 TD/INT ratio made the run all the more improbable.

Craig James had his best year as a pro rushing for 1225 yard at 4.7 yard per carry with Tony Collins 657 yards at 4.0 ypc as the changeup. Irving Fryar and Stanley Morgan both had 39 catches for 695 yard and 760 yards respectively. Tony Franklin connected on 24 of 30 FG attempts for 80% and 112 total points. HOFer John Hannah was the anchor of a pretty good offensive line.

No doubt that Roethlisberger stirs the drink in Pittsburg. Two of the five Steeler losses can be summed up in two words – Tommy Maddux. In the others, one could argue that Big Ben eas less than 100%. Roethlisberger’s 2385 yards, 17/9 ratio and 98.0 QB rating put him third in the NFL amoung starters trailing only Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer.

Wicked fast and shifty Willie Parker burst on the scene with 1202 yards at 4.7 ypc. The Bus, Jerome Bettis got the tough inside yardage and nine touchdowns. Vernon Hayes and Deuce Staley would both start on other teams. Heinz Ward had a so/so year in catches and yardage but did get his 11 scores. Every Steeler wideout blocks and Heath Miller has it all over ‘85 Pat TE Lin Dawson. The Steelers finished 3rd in rushing, 4th in passing, and 3rd overall.

Edge: ‘05 Pittsburg

The ‘85 Pat defense was a wrecking crew that always seemed to come up big in it’s biggest games. DL Julius Adams and LB triplets Andre Tippett, Steve Nelson, and Johnny Rembert anchored the #4 defense against the rush and all went to the Pro Bowl. Fred Marion and Ray Clayborn played corner and center field on the 6th rated pass defense. The Patriot defense was ranked the overall #4 stop unit in the NFL in 1985.

The Steeler defense in a group effort where everyone is good but nobody is arguably outstanding. Joey Porter (10.5) and Cliff Haggans (9.0) own half the Steelers sacks and Chris Hope leads the secondary with three picks, only Porter and Troy Polamalu even have two. The Steelers were #2 against the rush, #10 against the pass and #8 overall.

Edge: ‘85 New England

In 1985 the New England Patriots marched through the AFC playoffs as the 6th seed to eventually be mauled by the Chicago Bears 46-10 as 10 1/2 point underdogs. In 2005 the Pittsburg Steelers marched through the AFC playoffs as the 6th seed and are favored in their matchup with Seattle by four points. Win or lose, the 2005 Seattle Seahawks will never be mentioned in the same breath as that great Chicago Bear team. On Sunday we’ll see if they’ve even been given their proper respect.

Basics Of The Game – Putting

November 25th, 2008 by Administrator

Putting is an essential, if not the most important, factor in playing golf. This is where the game is decided. Nerves of steel and lots of practice are needed to master the art of putting. Even professional golfers feel the pressure when it’s time to putt and the game is on the line. Here are some tips to learn and improve on your putting.

First thing to do would be to take practice strokes next to the golf ball. This would help you feel the needed rhythm in putting the ball. You will need to do this as you don’t want your shot to be too awkward or too strong.

Try to have some marker to help you focus and help you with proper alignment of your putt. A marker is where you will aim the ball as you putt. The position of this marker is dependent on the terrain of the golf course.

When getting ready to putt, be sure that your eyes are focused on the golf ball itself. It will help in lining up the putter with the golf ball. You must remember not to focus on the marker but more on how you will make your shot.

Proper putting stance is needed when putting. You don’t want your balance disturbed by a sudden gust of wind. First thing to remember is that you should be comfortable with your stance. One way to do this is to separate your legs with about the same width as your shoulders. This is a standard stance and it should give you a comfortable and balanced posture for your putt.

You could try a wider stance as it will be more balanced but you would be less comfortable. Remember that the wider your legs are apart, the more balanced it is and the less comfortable you are. Just try to find your balance as you make your shot. If you feel you have to sacrifice your comfort zone to have more balance then do it.

You should also remember that your shoulders should be parallel to the direction of the putt. Your arms should just be dropped down straight from your shoulders. Your feet can be open or closed, depending on where you are most comfortable. Remember that the more comfortable you are, the more natural your shot will be.

Remember that all putts are straight. It is your aim that will change. When aiming at a flat green just aim straight to the hole. You should practice so that all your putts just follow an imaginary line. When aiming in an elevated green, you should just putt the same. The difference is that you will aim directly at a point above the hole. What you want to happen is for the ball to stop at one point and to let gravity take your ball directly to the putt.

Long putts are more complicated but if mastered will help tremendously with your game. You should remember that a great long putt will eliminate the need for you to do short putts. The first thing to do is to sit down behind your ball and facing the hole. From that point of view you’ll get to see the low and high points of the green. If it’s a fairly straight green, you can just shoot a straight putt like the way you’re shooting for small putts. If it’s not, then try to evaluate whether to divide your long putt to smaller putts and putt accordingly.

Dividing a long putt depends on the terrain of the golf course. If you see a combination of straight and elevated terrain, dividing it would be better than trying to make your putt in one try. Try to eliminate the elevated terrain so you will just have to create a straight shot putt for your last shot.

Remember that nerves will always come into play when shooting your putts. Just stay relaxed and focused on your shots and you’ll do fine. Don’t blame anyone when you miss your putt, stay focused and just prepare your next shot as if it’s your first putt. Take a deep breath and don’t let your anger get the best of you.

Having Fun Making Arrows and Practice Archery While Camping

November 25th, 2008 by Administrator

Next time when you go out camping, try to play with archery. It is fun-filled activity and can give you great way for entertainment and sense of accomplishment.

Read further to find intructions on how to prepare the target, making arrows and archery techniques.

The Target -

A target can be made of a burlap sack, or oil cloth, about five feet square. Stuff this with hay or straw.

It may be flattened by a few quilting stitches put right through with a long packing needle. On this the target is painted.

In scoring, the centre is 9, the next circle 7, the next 5, the next 3 and the last circle 1. The shortest match range for the
target is forty yards.

Making Arrows -

Arrows are divided into three parts: the head, sometimes called the pile, the shaft and the feathers.

For target, practice a wire nail driven into the end of the pile with the head of the nail filed off and pointed, makes an excellent head.

The shaft is generally made of hickory, ash, elm or pine, and its length is dependent upon that of the bow. For a five-foot bow, make the length two feet and the width and thickness about one-half inch.

Feathering is the next operation. Turkey and goose feathers are generally used.

Strip off the broader side of the vane of three feathers and glue them to the shaft one inch and a quarter from the notch, spacing them equally from each other.

One feather should be placed at right angles to the notch. This is known as the cock feather and should always point away from the bow when the arrow is shot.

Archery -

The archery rules for the five essential points are these:

1. Standing:

In taking position to draw the bow, the heels must be seven to eight inches apart, feet firm on the ground, yet easy and springy, not rigid.

2. Nocking:

This is manipulating the bow string. Hold the string with two fingers and the arrow between the first and second fingers. Grip firmly, but not so as to give awkwardness to any finger.

3. Drawing:

In drawing stand with the left shoulder toward the target, turning the head only from the neck and looking over the left shoulder.

Then raise the bow with the left hand, keeping the upper end inclined one or two degrees from the body. With the right hand draw the arrow to chin-level and below the ear.

4. Holding:

Steady the aim a moment and keep the point of aim directly in view, looking along the whole length of the arrow.

5. Loosing:

In letting the arrow go, do not jerk, but loose smoothly, and be certain your bow arm does not move when loosing. To get a clean, sharp loose is more than half way to hitting the target.

Happy camping!

The Catfish Were Bitting

November 24th, 2008 by Administrator

THE CATFISH WERE BITTING

I got my two fishing poles in the water at 07:10. The Ohio was around 28 feet a little muddy and still running fast. Around 07:30 I got a good bite on a chunk of roast beef. I missed it, may have been a garr for it did not come back to the bait.

My bobber went under at 07:45 and stayed under. I pulled and the fished pulled back hard. I knew right then it was a nice size fish at the other end. With the fast and deep water the fish stayed down for some time. I just kept my 10 foot rod high in the air to wear him down. Got him in the net O.K. and up onto the barge. A nice blue cat 29 inches long and 10.7 pounds. Took two photos of us and he was a chore to hold up to the camera.

At 08:30 my dead line took off I hooked my first channel cat of the season. When I got him in he was 261/2 inches long and topped out at 8.7 pounds. That is a nice size channel cat for this part of the Ohio River. I also got two photos of this one.

While I was getting this fish I noticed I had a bite on my other pole. Since I had my hands full dueling mthis fish that pole had to wait. I finally got over to it and there was a fish on it. This one was much smaller from the pressure of it’s pull. It turned out to be another channel cat but he swallowed the bait. I cut the line, weighed and measure him as quickly as I could. I then reurned him to the river. Hopefully he is old enough to survive with hook in the mouth.

The big surprise is all three of these fish were cuaght with an unusual bait. I has scraps of fired chicken skins I had left over from dinner the night before. This was from Lee’s regular fried chicken, however any fast food brand should do the job for you.

I packed up my gear and headed home around 10:30. I had a very good morning with the weather and the feeling reward of hooking such nice size fish, It was the way to start my day. Tight lines to all. NLCATFISH

‘Boys will be Boys’ (or ‘Why Men Need to Fight’)

November 23rd, 2008 by Administrator

I had twenty-five boys at the fight club tonight – twenty-five boys and one girl, and she certainly did stand out.

It’s amazing how starkly obvious the gender differences are in a ring environment. In the general flow of life in an industrialised society men and women are mixed and merged together in their daily routines, doing the same sorts of work, taking on the same sorts of responsibilities, etc. – barely distinguishable. But in the environment of the ring something different is going on. Here men are taking off their shirts, flexing their muscles, and getting physical with each other in a very primitive and very heterosexual way. Here we play roughly with each other, in a way that inevitably excludes most women and children.

There is something very basic but very beautiful about the ring. The cries of the combatants echo back to a time when women and men knew who they were and what was expected of them as members of their gender. The fight club is a sort of physical probe into the collective subconscious – giving embodiment to that repressed memory of a culture where women fed and nurtured the community while men fought to defend it.

That is why fighting is such a natural form of initiation rite for young men. We modern Australians are in desperate need of an initiation rite for our young people. Our nation continues to be swept by waves of adolescent boys who never become men. They develop adult male bodies, but they are bodies that have never been nourished with the ideals of a mature community – ideals that are needed if those bodies are to be put to good use.

I do seriously believe that our community would be greatly served if every teenage boy, when he reached the age of say 16 or 17 was obliged to train for a fight.

That fight training would then be conducted by the boy’s father and by the older males in the family as well as by other selected men in the community. When the day of the fight came, the men would gather together with all the boys who had been in training and tell them stories – stories of the great Australian men that have gone before them; the men who stormed the beaches at Gallipoli, the men who opened up the land for agriculture and industry, the great Aboriginal warriors who fought and died resisting the white invasion. Then the boys would be dressed in their fight gear and led to the side of the ring where the adult men would push the lads out into the centre. There they would be forced to rely upon their own resources for three rounds, after which they would be welcomed back as men, and then perhaps taken to the tattoo parlor to have etched into their skin the date of their fight and perhaps some emblem of courage and integrity that had been chosen for them.

It’s all a dream of course, but it’s a great one. We come close to it every time I lead a boy to the ring for the first time, with his dad at my side working his corner. We’ve had some wonderful moments like that – great fights fought by great boys who show all the signs of going on to become great men.

I claim that we’ve had a 100% success rate in terms of guys whom I’ve got involved in amateur contests getting out of the trouble they’ve been in. By the time we get them to the side of the ring they’ve stopped using drugs, they’re no longer in trouble with the law, they’re not causing trouble at school, etc. Of course the difficulty is in getting them that far, and that’s where we could do with more support from friends and family and less interference from the politically correct.

I am conscious of the fact that the focus of my work here is with boys rather than with girls, but I do believe that the crisis we are experiencing in our community is with boys. It is mostly boys who are doing drugs. It is boys who are doing the break and enters and rolls. It is boys who are getting into trouble with the law, and boys who are committing suicide. Of course none of this though should undermine the significance of initiation rites for girls, nor the significant effect that ring fighting can have in a girl’s life.

We do indeed have the occasional fighting woman join us, but she is a special kind of woman – one who is able to go toe to toe with the men, who can take as well as give a solid punch in the nose, and who can thus demand the respect of the men.

In my time as a fight trainer I’ve had the privilege of training up one of my girls, Wendy, to win the Australian lightweight title in kickboxing. She was a special sort of girl though. You don’t get many like Wendy. For the most part, the girls just come and sit near the side of the ring and look on wide-eyed while their men beat their chests and flail away at each other.

What about this girl who’s joined us for the first time tonight. Could she be another Wendy? Not likely. She’s doesn’t look the part at all. She’s a slender Vietnamese girl, with a sassy hairstyle and a T-shirt that prominently displays the words ‘Too busy to Fuck’.

I told her that if she wanted to train with us at all that she’d have to change into a different shirt. I offered her one of our club T-shirts – the ones with ‘Christianity with Punch’ displayed on the back. She was predictably reluctant to wear it, but she put it on eventually. Once we had her in a different T-shirt she faded from view as the centre of everybody’s attention. Even so, I suspect that the fine performance the boys put on tonight was in part inspired by a desire to impress our visitor. You can’t escape the sexual dynamics in this game.

A friend of mine in the army told me that, despite all the talk about equality of the sexes in the forces, the Australian army was still refusing to allow women into the front line, and with good reason. He said that the Israeli experience had been well documented (Israel being one of the only countries to put women in the front line) and that they were experiencing enormous problems. He said that for one thing, the statistics showed that men would always go back for a woman who had been shot, even if she was dead, and even if it put the rest of the squad in serious danger. He also said that the effect on morale of the death of a woman in the front line was far more serious than the effect of the deaths of any number of men (and morale is considered to be a third of any army’s fighting strength)! Gender differences just do not seem to be able to be ignored in a war zone.

I’m a great supporter of women in the fighting arts, and indeed I’ve been in trouble with our state government on more than one occasion because of my role in promoting, training, and officiating in fight contests between females (which is still illegal in NSW). But I don’t do this because I think that there’s no difference between men and women in the ring. In the office there might not be any relevant difference, and in the pulpit I can’t see or hear any, but in the ring – in that most fundamental and most primitive arena of human encounter – women are women, and men better bloody not be.

Climbing Journals – Preserve Your Climbing Experience

November 21st, 2008 by Administrator

Climbing is a great way to escape the rat race and be one with nature. Alas, your climbing experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a climbing journal for your mountain, boulder and other climbs.

Climbing Journals

Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent climbing experience. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first time you ever went climbing. Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the geography, people you went with, particular climbing routes and spectacular views. The experiences you’ve forgotten are lost to time. If you had kept a climbing journal, this won’t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your climbing experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good climbing journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don’t have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you went climbing with,

2. Where you climbed and if you enjoyed it,

3. Who you met and contact information for them,

4. The geographic and weather conditions,

5. Routes you tried and how far you made it, and

6. Any unique things that occurred while climbing.

At the end of the climb, you should be able to get the following from your journal:

1. Contact information for other climbers and people you met,

2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you climb the location a second time.

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to pass on to your friends, children and grandchildren.

To get the most out of your climbing journal, you should write in it during climbing breaks or immediately after. Every climb is special, even if you just go down into a local canyon.

Climbing is a great way to commune with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience.
