Using The Subconscious To Paint Fiction

April 30th, 2009 by Administrator

Famous authors often reserved their ‘other self’ for the privacy of their writing room. Such needed indulgence brought forth cherished times of private thoughts. You too should be delighting yourself in unrestricted views.

Close off the world and develop an intimate acquaintance with a character you have created and thus set free from the vapours of imagination (subconscious). When your thoughts quiver with expectation a power is released… the drawing forth of the image. I refer to this as energizing Frankenstein; turning your most vivid desires into a physical representation of your character.

Construct a cloth doll (or draw a likeness for a cardboard cutout). Catch their physical appearance. Who are they? Do they reveal any oddities? Are they employed or do they recline in leisure? Sketch in clothing. Remind yourself of hair, temperament and motives. Is this a translation of your inner passion? Converse openly with your character… ask questions, coaxing out the perfect portrayal of your dream. Sunbathe in the magic of being a designer. Now you will begin to discover… they will do anything you want them to… reporting, spying and filing information.

Gaze further into your mind. Do you know exactly where and how they live? Is there a map? Can you experience the weather, observe local animals and gather flowers? What minor characters are you bumping into? Do you feel like a tourist or can you invisibly investigate? So you have become a creator. Before you is the doll, the representation of all your hopeful thoughts --- but wait, it is naked and without status. You much now engage yourself as a costume designer. Back to those notes.

Flaunt your wand, feeling the confidence in your story. Study the picture above of a vintage book cover. In you mind fondle the lady’s red glass beads. Outline her luscious lips with your finger. Paint her eyes porcelain blue. She’s starting to breathe. She adores her ermine fur. Flick the feathers in her flamboyant hat (did you notice the jet hatpins?) Add more strands of gold to her ginger hair. A dab more of vermillion rouge. Pencil in a chic beauty spot. Pad out that bosom. Add an elegant dab of flirtatious perfume. In a diffusion of stars her dressing table manifests. You reach straightaway for the swans-down powder puff. A lovely pale blue ribbon bow sits atop. No doubt by now she is conversing with you and insisting on you letting her fine musical voice be known.

With jubilation you will now bestow the name for your character, after which you will be able to write about her without hesitation. You have achieved something wonderful and anchoring… an intimate knowledge of your character. Her words now ripple onto the paper. She sits nonchalantly on your dictionary, crossing her silk-stockinged legs. She fusses over morning tea and doodles on rainy afternoons (referring to it as artistic improvements).

The impossible dimension is reached, rupturing the membrane between fact and fiction. The story is yours to tell. Treasure your signature; it is the arrow of wisdom.

“You’ve Got to Bet the Preakness”

April 30th, 2009 by Administrator

This Saturday, I’ll be back at the same sports bar where I watched the Kentucky Derby. If you read my Derby column, I told you to throw out a couple of favorites (Lawyer Ron and Brother Derek), and keep Barbaro, despite history being against him. Unfortunately, I also told you that I like America’s favorite bet, the exacta. The exacta always seems do-able, and offers a chance to win some real dollars. And in a field of 20, what were the chances of hitting the Trifecta? Sad to say, that darn Bluegrass Cat spoiled my day. This was a horse that, by all reports, was “the bust of 2006.” That’s why it’s called gambling. But Triple Crown races are events, and, if you are a sports fan, you’ve got to bet the Preakness.

This time, it’s all about value.Sure, Barbaro looked great in the Kentucky Derby, but is he the sure thing thatmany analysts and bettors make him out to be? Well, maybe. Which is the reason you’ll never get value betting on him this Saturday. At best, he’ll go off at even money. Keep in mind, until Smarty Jones won in 2004, it had been 25 years since an odds-on-favorite won the Preakness Stakes. You’ll hear a lot about “The Bounce Factor,” which says that horses tend to regress after particularly strong races, especially when they are coming back on short rest. And Barbaro is a horse that has never run with fewer than five weeks of rest.

Did you know that 21of the last 22 Preakness Winners ran in the Kentucky Derby? So, what about Brother Derek and Sweetnorthernsaint? Brother Derek, the morning line favorite for the Kentucky Derby, had major positioning problems in the Derby, and spent most of the race trying to break through a crowded 20-horse field. He lost a shoe and still finished fourth. He could be primed to run in the Preakness the race that many had expected him to run in the Derby. Sweetnorthernsaint, who ended up as the Derby favorite after a lot of late money was bet on him, also is one to watch. His Beyer speed figures were consistently better than those of Barbaro before the Derby. At 4-1, he may be a good bet.

Only three horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby will run in the Preakness, the smallest number in the last quarter century. So, given that, the odds would be better that a horse would break that 21 out of 22 streak which I mentioned earlier. Which new horses are possible contenders? Most analysts think Bernardini is the best of the newcomers. The term “Speed Freak” has been used for Diabolical, and that always perks up my ears.Like Now likes to gun it from the start, so, maybe, he’ll take the lead and keep it. Nothing about the other new horses excites me.

So, I’ll be splitting up my $50 with a variety of bets. Right now, an exacta of Sweetnorthernsaint and Bernardini seems like good value, and not too outlandish. Scrappy T, the best fresh horse last year, came in second. Diabolical as a long shot to win might be worth a try. As long as Brother Derek doesn’t slip to worse than 3-1, put him in some exacta bets. And, if you just can’t bear not betting on Barbaro, put him in a couple of trifectas that include a long shot.Have a drink and enjoy yourself; there’s only one more to go after this one.

Finding University Financial Assistance for Lefties

April 27th, 2009 by Administrator

Searching for a way to finance a college education may be problematic and can certainly take time. These scholarships are unlike a normal student loan because these are a grant for a college education, and, do not need to be paid back. While researching means to finance a degree, suss out afew of of the special alternatives, for example lefthander grants.

Scholarships for Lefthanders

A southpaw bursary may at first seem out of the norm, but look at these facts: Bill Gates is a left hander, as is President Barack Obama. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Ringo Starr and J.F. Kennedy were also lefties. Statistics indicate eleven percent of individuals are left handed. Although in the past left handers have gone through significant discrimination, nowadays they are supposed to be more intelligent and more artistic. Discrimination is not an issue any longer and southpaws are no longer considered to be odd, as a matter of fact they are frequently associated with the many great individuals mentioned previously. If you are left-handed and searching for grants for southpaw students, a lot of left handed scholarships exist which you may be able to obtain. A Beckley Scholarship for up to 1000 USD is currently available at Juniata College stuated in Huntington, Pennsylvania. For scholars of Juniata College and established in 1979, this school grant helps a lot of students through university.

Many grants do have requirements and limitations. These may be grade requirements or monetary needs, but not always. Multiple program applications may increase the chances of graduating with a minimum amount of debt. Societies, groups connected to your hobbies and even local organizations may be a source of grants. Lefty bursaries are simply an example; financial aid is even accessible if you are a child of a ex-serviceman or have a disability, for instance. Exploring scholarships can take some effort, yet the advantages will invariably be valuable. The debt accrued by a college degree can be reduced via these scholarships utilised in conjunction regular borrowing. Ensure you explore every last opportunity. Do remember there are alternative choices besides lefthanded grants — be creative! Try for every last grant you might possibly qualify for, you may keep any debt to a an absolute minimum, and you will be looking at better prospects on graduation.

Ironman Training-Should You Stretch?

April 27th, 2009 by Administrator

Stretching Is one of those grey areas that nobody seems to really understand. Sometimes I watch people stretching just before a race and you can just tell they are going through the motions–unsure exactly what it is they’re doing.

I tried the stretching thing for a year or so and came to the conclusion that for me it was a waste of time. Actually more to the point,it did more harm than good. I injured myself twice while stretching and ended up missing training time.

There’s really enough preparation work for an Ironman hopeful to do and I think you can forego the stretching routine. I think stretching might be a good thing if it were done every day, but ultimately that just doesn’t happen. I watch young kids in swim clubs who stretch every day for quite a long time and that makes sense. Their bodies are used to it and it is part of their everyday routine.

It makes more sense to me to swim, bike or run slowly at the beginning of a training session for at least 10-15 minutes and let your muscles stretch out naturally by doing exacly what they will be doing in a few minutes at a faster pace.

That is my advice to you. If you stretch now and have a regular program and it works for you, then you should stick with it. Otherwise I wouldn’t even start.

My name is Ray and I have an extensive 20 plus year background in marathons and triathlons. The best thing that ever happened to me was the Ironman.

I have built a website with the intention of providing training and racing tips to aspiring Ironman triathletes. Its my way of giving something back to the sport.

Germany vs Italy Semifinal Review

April 26th, 2009 by Administrator

It has to be a titanic match and it lived up to the expectations. Italy started with pace in park and creating early openings. With both teams willingness to attack early the match seems to be an open match rather than a tactical stalemate.

Totti astute pass to Perrotta created the first clear opening of the match but Perrotta’s first touch left much to be desired and took the ball away from him and invited Lehmann to make a brave save.

Midway through the half as the game slowly and steadily turning into a midfield mudsling Pirlo pass was intercepted and Klose released Schneider for a clear shot on goal. Unfortunately for Germany he blown it away, no wonder he has just scored one goal in 70 odd matches.

Italy bright start and dominant possession had one bleak side that they failed to translate it into goals before the half time.

The second half was all together a different story. Germany came out as a team possessed and clear in its thought of what has to be done to dispose the Italians. Ballack start imposing himself on the game and substitute Odonkor send some beautiful crosses.

One of those crosses was well held by Podolski on a turn but the shot was brilliantly saved by Buffon. With attack few and far between from the Italian side it seemed that they are happy to play for the extra time.

In the extra time the Italian came out blazing hitting the crossbar and post in the first three minutes of extra time. German goal was living its charmed life, defense was all over as Juaquinto regularly beating Lahm on the flanks to create opportunities.

At the end of the first half of extra time Germany got its best opportunity of the match. Podolski received a free header in front of goal from a cross by Odonkor. Nobody in the stadium believed he missed it.

In the second half of the extra time the game totally opened up. There was no midfield of note and teams are either attacking or defending. Germany made early inroads and Podolski thunderous shot was brilliantly saved by Buffon.

As the match seemed to going to penalties Pirlo fired a shot at Lehmann , which was easily diverted to corner. On the resulting corner slack defending led to the impossible. A brilliant curling left foot shoot from Grasso ending into the back of the German goal. I will be surprised if it won’t be among the best goals of the tournament.

Two minutes to left Germany went for broke to equalize and Del Piero took the advantage on brake and scored Italy’s second with the last kick of the match.

Germany’s dream is shattered and nightmares of 1982 are back.

Can the Sixers Still Win With A.I.? – 76ers Mediocre Midseason Report

April 25th, 2009 by Administrator

If anybody needed any more evidence as to how maddeningly inconsistent the
Philadelphia 76ers have been the season, one needs to look no further than
Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls and their contest the night before against the San Antonio Spurs as proof.

Following a dramatic 103-100 OT victory over the world-champions at the Wachovia
Center on Wednesday night, the Sixers responded with an even more spectacular
failure on Thursday night, losing to the barely-registering-a-pulse Chicago Bulls by
33 points.

That’s right boys and girls, 33 points.

These Sixers are mediocrity personified. One night they’re beating the world
champs at home by displaying defensive grit, teamwork, and another all-world
performance by Allen Iverson. The next night, they’re laying down against the
Central Division’s last-place team.

It’s just maddening.

Most professional sports teams ride on a wave of momentum. Whether it’s good or
bad, teams in all sports catch that wave and either ride it to success or failure. But
not the Sixers. These Sixers play like Eastern Conference title contenders one night,
then follow it up the next night with an effort the Charlotte Bobcats would be proud
of.

Why can’t these guys get it together? Why can’t they maintain the level of play they
showed against the Spurs for more than one night? How can they go from beating
the world champions one night to taking a dump on the court against one of the
Eastern Conference’s worst teams the following night?

The biggest reason is defense. When the 76ers play defense like they did against the
Spurs on Wednesday, they can beat almost anybody. However, nights when the
Sixers play defense are about as frequent as a Dick Cheney press conference. You
can probably count on hand the number of times these guys have put together four
quarters of solid defensive effort this season.

Chris Webber, Allen Iverson and Kyle Korver are abortions on defense. These guys
couldn’t guard a wheelchair player let alone most NBA stars. Iverson provides no
pressure on the opponent’s point guard, which allows the other team to set up their
offense with little or no resistance whatsoever. Chris Webber’s knee prevents him
from jumping more than two feet in the air at any given time, let alone rebounding
or bodying anyone up in the low blocks. And Kyle Korver has the lateral movement
of William Refrigerator Perry. No one gets beat off the dribble quite like Kyle Korver.

Mo Cheeks has got to take a lot of the blame for this mess. Granted, he doesn’t
have a lot of great defensive players on his roster, but it appears on most nights
that the Sixers couldn’t even be bothered to try and defend people. And that’s the
indictment on him.

The 76ers seem to always be going through the motions. Cheeks was supposed to
be a coach that the players liked and respected, someone they could get behind. But
it looks as though they play like five separate guys out on the court rather than as
one cohesive unit. It’s a collection of random dudes thrown out on the court trying
to make something happen by themselves. Half the time it works, half the time it
doesn’t.

One thing it does is make for some pretty inconsistent basketball.

One of the big concerns for the Sixers has got to be the play of Andre Iguodola. Iggy
was supposed to emerge in year #2, but it just hasn’t happened. Here’s a guy with
all the talent in the world, the team’s only true lock-down defender, but he has yet
to take it to the next level. Just like the great black bear, Iggy’s offense makes a
brief cameo appearance, then as quickly as it came, goes back into hibernation.

Perhaps Allen Iverson’s penchant for hogging the ball too much is the cause of
Iggy’s failure to make “the leap.” But it seems to me that a truly great player can
make something happen whenever he touches the ball, and Andre has not shown
the ability or desire to do that yet. If the Sixers are going to be a playoff contender,
they need Andre Iguoldola to be another offensive threat.

But more than the X’s and O’s, it’s the personality and effort of the 2005-06 76ers
that is the biggest problem. On nights like Wednesday night against the Spurs, you
could see a fire in their eyes and a competitive spirit in their play that made you
think, “maybe this is the turning point.” Then, on nights like Thursday night against
the Bulls, you see it was a one-night aberration, a mirage, something that couldn’t
be repeated.

The effort of the 76ers reminds me of my golf swing. Every once in a while,
everything comes together. I keep that left arm in, keep my head down on the ball,
follow through, and watch that baby fly high and far into the sky. But my muscle
memory isn’t there yet. So I’ll follow that beautiful shot up by shanking my next
shot off the side of someone’s house or into a pond the size of New Hampshire.

Effort is a lot like that muscle memory. Once you get into the habit of putting out
maximum effort every night and doing the little things necessary to playing winning
basketball, you can’t help but be successful. The 2000-01 Sixers are proof of that.
Effort is a habit, one the 76ers haven’t tried to learn.

So, at the midseason mark, the Sixers are pretty much where they have been since
opening night, right around .500 at 25-27. They currently hold the 8th and final
playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. And sadly, there really is nothing that GM
Billy King can do to fix things. Chris Webber is untradeable. And there is no way the
Sixers could get equal value for Allen Iverson. There is no one out there on the
trading block that would make things any better.

The Sixers are stuck with what they’ve got; a collection of somewhat talented guys
who can’t seem to play with each other.

Mediocrity and the 76ers… get used to it.

Advances in Immunohisto Chemistry Permit Improved Diagnostic Sensitivity Cancer of the Mesothelium

April 25th, 2009 by Administrator

Mesothelioma is a rare and fast acting growth where no effective treatment exists notwithstanding the discovery of several likely molecular and genetic targets. The late stages of Malignant pleural mesothelioma diagnosis and the long time that connects contacts and diagnosis have made it hard to completely study what risk factors do and the resulting molecular effects.

Quite a few medical centers are witnessing more people that have mesothelioma. Because of this, pathologists studying the case are given a number of problems, which can be divided into those discovered in distinguishing between malignant mesothelioma and benign changes and those experienced in differentiating cancer of the mesothelium from additional types of e-cadherin and tissue tumors that connect. IHC is a major factor in diagnosing, but it should be interpreted in regards to the experimental setting and radiological characteristics, and understanding the wide morphological variations that exist in mesothelioma.

Malignant mesothelioma is a primary cancer of the serosal cavities, a basic area that is also frequently affected by mets, mostly from primary carcinomas of the lung, breast, and ovary. Progression in IHC have lead to enhanced diagnostic sensitivity and exactness in the differential diagnosis in regards to histological and cytological material. Recently, the authors group applied high throughput technology to the classification of new markers that could help in being able to tell the difference between mesothelioma from ovarian and peritoneal cancer, closely related histogenesis found in tumors and antigenic profile. Together with the better tools obtainable for serosal carcinoma diagnosis, knowledge regarding the biology of cancer of the mesothelium has accumulate as of late.

Graduation Diplomas For All

Graduation Caps

Friends and family members of graduates convene to celebrate the academic achievements of their loved ones during graduation ceremonies. During this momentous event, the graduates are expressing the pride of their accomplishments by wearing unique graduation caps among other components that make up the academic regalia. These headdresses consist of a square board that is horizontally fixed on a skull-cap, with an attachment of a tassel at the center. graduation caps are generally referred to as mortarboards and together with a gown and sometimes a hood, they are the university graduate’s customary uniform. Different colors and designs aids in distinguishing different institutions and fields of study.
Mortarboards are required to be of appropriate size and most are customized with an elastic skull in order to eliminate the requirement of making numerous mortarboards in varying sizes. The skull cap’s back is on a few occasions laced up in some mortarboards to ensure a perfect fit. The ideal way of wearing a mortarboard is ensuring that the skull’s larger section is at the rear of the head while the mortarboard top remains horizontally parallel in relation to the ground. When graduation caps fit properly, this is a guarantee that they cannot easily fall off and lead to embarrassment.
