Looking at My Chips

Tells are all over the poker online table. Your opponents will be happy to tell you what they have or what they’re doing-you just need to know what to look for. One of the easiest things to look for is where your poker online opponent is looking. After a community card is revealed, each poker player at the table has to reconsider what he’s doing and how he’s going to go about trying to win the hand. Many players tend to externalize their thinking with their eyes, most notably by looking at chip stacks. When community cards are revealed, I usually notice some heads moving at the table. Players will generally start looking at their cards and counting their outs, but when they start checking out stacks, it’s usually time to be concerned. If an opponent starts looking at his own stack, the new card(s) have usually helped them out, and he’s thinking of betting-how much he should bet, whether or not to go all in, et cetera. I’d like to say that if he’s looking at your stack, it means he’s got nothing and is afraid of you raising, but it’s usually because he’s thinking of putting you all in. Be wary of the player who starts checking out the chip stacks at the table.
