Heron Tower earns BREEAM excellent rating

The Heron Tower, the newest addition to the London skyline, has been given green building status in the form of a BREEAM rating of excellent, as announced by Heron International today.

The power behind the Tower describes it as an environmentally focused office building that is a visionary development within the City of London. They continued to say that it offers world class deskspace with the goal of setting the new standard for offices in the future.

The Heron Tower will be completed in 2011 and with 46 storeys will be the tallest building in the City of London at an astounding 202m with a 20m mast. It is found on Bishopgate directly in the heart of London.

Additionally, the Heron Tower is also ideal for those utilizing public transportation given the fact that it is only 200m from the Liverpool Street station, which is one of the largest London commuter stations.

Some of its environmentally green features include photovoltaic cells that are able to generate renewable electricity, and a solar shield that reduces heat gain by 45% more than just a standard glazing solution.

Development Director for Heron Tower, Steven Evans, stated in regards to the reward that the beauty of the tower is not just superficial as their aim throughout the project has been to create a global benchmark for office space by constructing one of the most advanced buildings globally.

Evans continued to say that Heron Tower took the challenges of sustainability and green issues head-on and employed a number of environmental strategies which no doubt helped earn the excellent BREEAM rating.
